Thursday 17th November 2011 at 18.00 PAT and PADS present

Professor Flora Samuel of Sheffield University

Le Corbusier and Women

Jill Craigie Cinema, Roland Levinsky Building, Plymouth University

Le Corbusier was fascinated by what he called ‘the sexual question’, the relationship between the sexes, which he believed to be at a new low.

This lecture will reveal the many strategies he used to ameliorate the lives of women (and men) and will show that, ultimately, his idealised view of womanhood was slightly at odds with reality.

Professor Flora Samuel is Professor of Architecture and Head of School at University of Sheffield School of Architecture where she also teaches design and architectural history. She has published widely on the subject of Le Corbusier, including Le Corbusier: Architect and Feminist, Le Corbusier and the Architectural Promenade and Le Corbusier in Detail.
