EXHIBITION: HALDON'S HIDDEN HERITAGE
Saturday 4 October-Sunday 18 January 2009, closed for Christmas 22-31 December Admission free
The Haldons are often referred to as the ‘hidden’ hills of Devon, despite being just a few miles South West of Exeter. Apart from its forests and landmark tower, most people know little of its rich heritage.

This unique exhibition and its accompanying activities touches every aspect of Haldon’s heritage, through geology and prehistory, to the establishment of its grand country mansions – such as Haldon House and its Racecourse, its industries, roads, railways to the flora and fauna of its forests and its eccentricities such as the Dunchideock ‘treacle mines’!
It is supported by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and has been researched by Iain Fraser, Christopher Pidsley and Dr. Ted Freshney, helped by many people and organisations, notably the Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, Westcountry Studies Library and the Forestry Commission. The exhibition panels will afterwards be available to be shown in local village, community and school halls. Please enquire from CCANW. See also Iain Fraser's website www.palkhistory.net.
On New Year’s day, when we re-open, we are organising a circular 3 mile walk starting from the Lord Haldon Hotel to Haldon Belvedere via the gardens of Haldon Grange. Details are in our Autumn programme which is downloadable below. Participation £6 (£4 conc.) incl. admission to the Belvedere. We would prefer you to book, but if you can’t reach us at CCANW on 01392 832277, you can call Iain Fraser on 01626 830077 or Clive Adams on 01363 84096.
